ATLANTA, Ga. -- The relentless and destructive tornado outbreak in April 2011 that caused massive damage, injuries and loss of life across the South resulted in unprecedented response and recovery efforts coordinated by FEMA to every affected state across the region. The storms spawned a record 750 tornadoes. A reported 361 people lost their lives. Six states received major disaster declarations. Two Additional Kentucky Counties Eligible for Public Assistance; Disaster Aid Exceeds $17 Million

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- The Federal Emergency Management Agency has approved Bath and Adair counties for participation in FEMAs Public Assistance program, making them eligible to obtain assistance for infrastructure restoration and reimbursement of funds for emergency actions taken during the severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding occurring Feb. 29 through March 3. This brings the total number of counties eligible for federal disaster assistance to 23.
